About us

We’re an independent local charity and part of the Trussell community of food banks. We serve local people regardless of background, inspired by our inclusive Christian ethos and values.

Our vision is a UK without the need for food banks

We meet the need for emergency and affordable food, and tackle the causes of poverty, by harnessing the power of the community.

Steve Clay
For most of its history Cambridge City Foodbank has been run entirely by volunteers, providing food to people in need five days a week. Today, together with a team of employed staff, volunteers and partners across the city, we are working towards a future where no one is forced to turn to a food bank to survive.

We meet the need for emergency and affordable food

We meet growing need for emergency food through our eight Foodbank Welcome Centres, and enable access to affordable food through our Fairbite Food Club network, for people who are in longer-term need.

We tackle the causes of poverty

In order to end the need for food banks, we must identify the causes of financial hardship and address them, by helping people who are struggling with advice and guidance, and campaigning for wider policy change.

We harness the power of the community

We rely on our 200-strong team of volunteers, the generosity of the public, and our partners in the local community.

Our values shape everything we do

Compassion

We stand in solidarity with people in need and are motivated to work together to end poverty.

Dignity

We uphold the right of every person to be valued and respected for their own sake.

Justice

We are motivated by our desire for a more just society. It is not right that anyone should face poverty and hunger.

Community

We believe we have a responsibility to support one another in our community. To create change, we believe we must collaborate together for a fairer society.

Impact

We believe our work must be informed by evidence of what works and that we should use the resources we have been given wisely to create positive transformation.

Our ethos

We serve local people regardless of background, inspired by our inclusive Christian ethos and values. We are an independent local charity and member of the Trussell community of food banks.
